Friday 7th July 15.30 – 16.30 in the Main Marquee
An outline talk on who the Home Guard were, why we needed them, what they did and what, if anything they achieved. This will be followed by a short talk on various weapons used by the Home Guard by ordinance expert John Hadfield who has been a member of the group for about 2 years and is a retired film maker.
Steven Harris has been a member of Oxfordshire Home Guard Living History Group for just over 4 years and has somehow been elected to act as the ‘speaker’. The group has grown in numbers from the core of 5 or 6 members in its first year to just under 40 members now. They display at many shows, fetes around the county and are always keen to attract new members particularly as our women’s section has grown. The group was originally only Home Guard but now has home front displays too (ARP, ATS, WRNS and Women’s Home Guard Auxiliary). The ladies section is also growing in strength and is a welcome addition to the group. Book
