An abridged version of ‘Lark Rise’ by Keith Dewhurst, from the book by Flora Thompson
a new script based on material from ‘More Tales from Lark Rise: the childhood memories of Flora Thompson’s younger sister’ by Betty Timms (2012)
It is with great delight that we invite you to a special one off staging of ‘Lark Rise and More Tales’.
Run the fields with young Laura and Edmund Timms, seeing a snippet of their time growing up in Juniper Hill in the 1880s, and then join Betty Timms in remembering the grand celebration of Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee.
The production is a combination of Keith Dewhurst’s play Lark Rise, based on Flora Thompson’s famous Lark Rise to Candleford, and a new script based on More Tales from Lark Rise by Flora’s sister, Betty Timms.
People of all ages and experience from the local community have joined together to bring alive the hardships and joys of country life in the 1800s. Largely rehearsed in just one weekend, the production will feature a wonderful selection of characters, songs from the time, and even some country dancing!
The play is suitable for all ages, and will last for approximately two hours including an interval. It will be followed by a pig roast and barn dance, which you are welcome to stay around for!
The play will be supported musically by Birmingham Repertory Opera Company.
This amateur production of “Lark Rise” is presented by special arrangement with SAMUEL FRENCH, LTD.
