The SOE was set up by Churchill in the dark days of 1940 to wage subversive war in occupied Europe. It had its HQ in Baker Street but all of its wireless communications were operated from two secret centres. One of these was Grendon Underwood the other Poundon. Each had a wireless receiving station and a separate transmitter. Poundon’s transmitter was at Godington. Poundon was also used by the USA military.
